This privacy policy explains what data BS Decoder (“the extension”, “we”) collects, how it is used, and who it is shared with.
What the extension does
BS Decoder rewrites the subtitles displayed on YouTube videos, replacing political or corporate doublespeak with a plain-language, humorous restatement of what the speaker actually means.
Data we collect and how we use it
To rewrite subtitles, the extension needs to call the Groq API on your behalf. You provide your own Groq API key in the extension’s settings.
Storage: your API key is stored locally in your browser (via the storage permission) and never leaves your device except when sent directly to Groq to authenticate your own requests. We do not collect, see, or store your API key on any server we operate.
When you use the extension on a YouTube video, the caption text shown on that video is sent to Groq’s API to be rewritten.
Storage: caption text is processed in real time and is not stored by the extension, locally or remotely. Purpose: solely to generate the rewritten subtitles displayed back to you in the video player.
The extension stores your on/off preference locally in your browser so it can remember your settings between sessions.
Who we share data with Groq (groq.com) processes the caption text and your API key (for authentication) in order to generate the rewritten subtitles. Groq’s own privacy policy governs how they handle this data: https://groq.com/privacy-policy/ We do not share, sell, or transfer your data to any other third party. We do not use your data for advertising, credit scoring, lending decisions, or any purpose unrelated to the extension’s core subtitle-rewriting feature. Data we do not collect
The extension does not collect personally identifiable information, health information, financial or payment information, personal communications, location data, browsing history, or user activity (clicks, keystrokes, mouse movement).
Your choices You can remove your API key and clear stored preferences at any time from the extension’s settings, or by uninstalling the extension. Since your API key is stored only in your local browser storage, uninstalling the extension removes it. Changes to this policy
